HOWTO: clean your camera sensor

You love your compact camera, but lately there is a big dirty blurry dark spot on the screen, and on each photo! Your camera is ruined, you're condemned to buy a new one. Unless... This is a tutorial to get rid off it.

You love your compact camera. It just fits in your pocket so you always have it with you. The photos look very good on your web photo albums, and even prints have a fair quality. For the type of every day life photos that you are doing, this is just perfect.

But since last week you get a big dirty blurry dark spot on all your photos. You can easily see inside the lens a fair amount of small dust. How did it get there? And more importantly how to clean it out?

How long will last our documents?

We accumulate more and more documents on our computers and on the Internet. Text, photos, music, videos. It feels it will last forever. But what will we be able to read in 20 years from now? Can we ensure that our data remains accessible "forever"?

The other day I was remembering some of the LP records that I used to listen at my parents' place. I have been regularly looking for a CD edition of my favorite ones, like these oboe concertos by Heinz Holliger, but I am afraid that many of them will never be re-edited. I also still have a few favorite tracks on audio cassettes, but I have no player anymore. As I don't even know their title, I will never find them again. They seem to be dying with the technology.

Philippe Starck is a world famous French product designer. His most famous product is undoubtedly the Juicy Salif. You know, the aluminum lemon squeezer that looks like Tintin's rocket with longer legs. Starck said that it was actually not meant to squeeze lemons (...) but to start conversations. One day I almost bought one, but I had second thoughts: I felt I do not have the right house to put around it.

Tomboy is a neat note taking software, combining simplicity and power. It works on Linux, Mac OS X and Windows. A very interesting feature is that tomboy makes it super easy to link to other notes (like in a wiki, but better) and recognizes many URLs. So from one note, you are just one click away from any resources you like: another note, a web page, a file on your computer, an email, etc.

Crawling cables at home are like rats. I managed to hide all of them, except one that I need for my laptop. This is an original "IKEA hack" to disguise this last cable.

Crawling cables at home are like rats: ugly, always in your feet and gather load of dust. To power a laptop or an iron, I have been for a while somehow tolerating an extension cord getting out of below the sofa. It looked like... a rat. On the other hand IKEA rats are so soft and cute. It gave me the idea to hide the extension cord box inside a "Gosig Råtta", the IKEA rat.
